BIO: My name is Lucky; the name was given to me by the shelter because I was most likely hit by a car and survived so I guess that makes me pretty lucky! I found my way to a nice person’s home and stayed for about a week before they surrendered me to Animal Control. When I got to the shelter the staff realized that I was in rough shape. They immediately sent me to the vet where blood test and x-rays were done. My leg was weak and I was unable to bear weight on it. After shaving the leg and shoulder to make sure there were no open wounds the vet found swelling in the shoulder and chest area and some faint bruising. Overall the assessment conclusion was that there was a lot of soft tissue damage but nothing broken. I was to continue on medications and rest with the hopes that my leg would recover. This is when I became available for a rescue to take me. I was not available for adoption to the public so if a rescue didn’t step up quickly I was on the list to be euthanized. Well, Furever Dachshund Rescue, yes a dachshund rescue, saw me and wanted to help. My foster mom said she saw my face and couldn’t resist so I was safe and on my way to a loving foster home.
I love my foster home and all my foster brothers and sisters. I get along well with everyone. My foster mom took me for a surgical consult to see if she could get my leg repaired but that was not possible because I had already lost large amounts of muscle mass. It was recommended that my leg be amputated but my foster mom knew that I was trying to use it and we worked to rehabilitate my leg all the time. Well my foster mom was right because after a year of running and playing in the yard we discovered that I was using my leg much more and was bearing weight on it. It’s not perfect and it will never be but I am happy and no further damage has occurred. Other than my disability I am a healthy happy boy. I need a home with a family that will love me and play with me and give me a wonderful life. I am truly a fantastic dog and love my owners unconditionally. Please give me a chance to show you how wonderful I truly am; I promise not to disappoint you!
