BIO:  
Sweet little Rivers has such a sad story but he is looking for his happy ending. His horrible owners left him in a kennel outside of the animal shelter in the middle of the night. He was dirty, skinny and had a mouth full of rotten teeth. His teeth were so decayed that he had to eat baby food in the days before his dental could be done. His previous owners had not even taken the care to offer him soft food that he could eat without causing pain. This situation is made even sadder when you consider Rivers personality: sweet, affectionate and finding no greater happiness than to be close to his person and wag his tail at any kind word. When our sweet little boy went under to have his teeth removed we assumed he would return to us with no teeth at all, but because he was neglected for so long the infection and decay moved into his jaw bone and the vet had to leave his canines so that his jaw would remain stable. Because he was under anesthesia for so long and because he is high risk because of his age, Rivers was not able to be castrated and the vet recommends that he does not go under anesthesia again for any type of procedure. He does not show any sort of aggressive behavior and is happy to potty outside as long as he is let outside regularly. Rivers now eats a very high quality canned dog food and must remain on something very nutritious and high quality in order to help him gain weight and reverse the malnutrition he endured for so long. Rivers is such a good boy. He loves to snuggle beside you to go to sleep and will sit up to beg when he wants food or comfort. If you have room in your life and heart for this sweetest of little Dachshunds please consider filling out an application. Rivers is a wonderful little boy who can share his heart with you furever.

We encourage adopters from all over the United States and will do our absolute best to accommodate you in arranging for transportation if you choose to adopt a dachshund from FDR. If your dachshund of choice is coming from a state other than the one you reside in, there will be an additional $40.00 Health Certificate Fee that is required by law.
